NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The bright lights of Friday night football are more than seven months away, but that doesn't mean coaches aren't getting ready.
This includes finding new ways to prepare their teams for battle on the gridiron.
This weekend, East Texas coaches will do that as they converge on Hotel Fredonia in Downtown Nacgodoches for the first ever East Texas Coach's Clinic.
"We've got six speakers. Several college coaches, all the high school coaches that are speaking have playoff experience. It comes with a buffet meal. Everything is paid for," said clinic organizer and Offensive Coordinator at LaMarque High School John Launius.
This is a clinic that organizers believe is needed for the area
"There's not really one in East Texas. Most people go to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Lubbock and even Corpus Christi," said Launis
East Texas is no stranger to football success, and people from around the state and nation have respect with what they have seen from the area.
"People in East Texas are just as excited and hungry about football as anyone in the state. The facilities that are popping up and the coaches getting their kids in," said Launius.
That is why the people putting on the clinic are just as excited as the coaches attending.
"Texas is a hotbed for football and there has been a lot of success in the area so to be honest, I look forward as the one putting it on to hear from other people," said Launius.
