LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Ellen Trout Zoo has a new member to its family after a six-foot tall Masai giraffe was born Sunday evening.
According to a press release, the calf arrived at 6:29 p.m. and is in good health.
Signs of early labor were observed in the morning and full labor began mid-afternoon and went well for the mother, Emi Lane.
The mother and calf are being given time to bond with each other and the gender of the calf will be determined following a well-baby check.
Due to the cold weather, the calf will be on public display at a later date.
