SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Scottsdale police said a man they were seeking in connection with a serious car-motorcycle collision Jan. 6 turned himself in to police Sunday.

Jeffrey Robert Powell-Jenkins, 23, was booked into jail on two counts of failing to remain at the scene of a collision after a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle rear-ended his sedan on Scottsdale Road near Earll Avenue, according to police.

The 52-year-old man driving the motorcycle and a 50-year-old woman riding on the back suffered life-threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan left the scene with damage to its back end.

Police said they learned that Powell-Jenkins and the sedan, a gray 1994 gray Chevrolet Camaro, had been involved in a prior DUI in Scottsdale and while police were looking for Powell, he turned himself in Sunday.

The Harley-Davidson was heading south on Scottsdale Road just south of Earll Avenue when the sedan pulled out of a private drive, headed south and was struck in the back by the motorcycle about 8 p.m., according to Officer David Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department.

Pubins said neither the motorcyclist, of Tempe, nor his female passenger, of Phoenix, wore helmets. Pubins said both were taken to Scottsdale-Healthcare Hospital after the collision. The driver was badly hurt, but is expected to survive, while the woman suffered life-threatening injuries.

Pubins said alcohol and speed might have been factors in the crash, but did not elaborate.
