LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Following President Obama's proposed gun restriction plan, East Texans had many opinions about their gun rights.

From Lufkin's Bar-be-que, to Academy Sports and Outdoors and even Utra Cuts, no one we spoke to Wednesday supported the President's plan.

"Leave our guns alone, the assault weapons ban isn't going to solve anything. There are more people killed by hammers every year than by what they call assault weapons," said Thomas Sturdivant.

"We kill animals to eat. We don't kill animals just for the fun of it. We do it for a reason; we like the food. Guns don't kill people, people kill people," said Talina Bobbitt

"I know the people that's gotten their sons and daughters that's died from em' they'd be for it," said Montana Woods.

"If it came down to me and my children, I would do whatever I had to do," said Melony Wilkerson.

"If you take the guns away from law abiding citizens, the other ones that will have it will be the criminals," said Sturdivant.

"It's not going to really stop crime because if someone wants to commit a crime and come in a room and kill people they're going to use a gun," said Woods.

If you do support the President's plan, we certainly want to hear from you, to present all sides of the story.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
