MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A big American flag flies outside the east Mesa home where 60-year-old Nathen Noyes was shot to death.

"As of right now, almost 24 hours later, there's been no arrest in this situation," said Sgt. Tony Landato of the Mesa Police Department.

Just after 8 p.m. Sunday, Mesa police responded to a call of shots fired.

They found Noyes dead inside the home and said his 59-year-old wife, Patricia Noyes, was the only other person there.

"There is indication that the wife was handling the weapon when it discharged," said Landato, who said she claimed the shooting was accidental.

Several cars packed the home's driveway Monday night as the family asked for privacy.

Meanwhile, police are calling the case an ongoing homicide investigation.

"We're obviously evaluating the scene and then obviously her testimony and making sure that all that coincides. So it's kind of cautiously but slowly proceeding with it," said Landato.

Mesa police say Patricia Noyes is cooperating fully with their investigation.
