Green Valley housekeeper gets probation for thefts

TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

A southern Arizona housekeeper has been sentenced to four years' probation for stealing from 13 of her clients.

Pima County prosecutors say 55-year-old Georgia Chapman also was ordered Tuesday to pay more than $430,000 restitution.

A Green Valley resident called the Pima County Sheriff's Department last April to say she believed her housekeeper had taken up to $2,000 worth of her jewelry.

Authorities say Chapman admitted stealing from the woman. She told investigators that she sold the jewelry as scrap and received more than $300.

The Arizona Daily Star says Chapman later confessed to stealing jewelry from other clients.

Chapman was indicted on charges of burglary, trafficking in stolen property, theft and fraud.

She pleaded guilty in November to attempted theft and faced up to three years in prison.
