Last season the Angelina College Roadrunners men's basketball team had just four wins in Region 14 play. This year is a very different story.
Just about half way through Region play the 'Runners find themselves at the top of the South Division standings with a 7-2 record.
AC assistant coach John Dillard says it's easy to get used to those winning ways.
"Winning brings on more winning," said Dillard. "And right now it feels pretty good to be on this type of roll with this team."
The 'Runners have managed to jump from the bottom of the standings to the cream of the crop so far in their division with a very quick turnaround. Dillard gives all the credit to their returning players leadership.
"It all comes down to our sophomore leadership," said Dillard. "They are a group of guys that not only understand how to win, but also because all these other guys are still fighting for NCAA scholarships. So these sophomores have a tremendous sense of urgency."
Dillard also said that the differences between this team and last year's are obvious.
"It is an awesome feeling to have guys that really buy into what we are talking about as a coaching staff," said Dillard. "It has been like night and day from last year."
Next up for AC a meeting with the Blinn College Bucs (2-7) Wednesday night on the road. The Lady Roadrunners are also in action, as they will face Panola. The women of AC currently sit at 3rd place in the Region standings.
