GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Some puppy love sparked action by the Gulfport City Council Tuesday. The council declared five Belgian Malinois puppies as "surplus property" that can be sold for $500 each.

Gulfport's police chief said the puppies belong to Tiara, the department's only female drug dog. He said female canines cannot be fixed because it affects their drive to work. So when in heat, extra precautions have to be taken or, well, puppies happen.

Although not confirmed, a Gulfport city spokesperson has pointed to the handler's other dog as the alleged father.
