ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County Sheriff's deputies have detained three people after an apparent shooting on Winston Ranch Road Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lt. Charles Lawrence, a man and woman, Benjamin Bogany, 30, of Lufkin, and Destini Williams, 24, in a Honda had confronted a man, Andrew Jackson Netherton III, 29, in a Nissan pickup about stolen items. The couple chased Netherton, and both vehicles wrecked.
ACSO deputies stated that it appears Bogany started shooting first, and Netherton returned fire. No one hit by the gunfire.
Lawrence said a witness told them Williams then jumped out of the pickup and tried to bury some drugs. She seemed shocked that she was getting arrested,
"We did find some drugs they were trying to bury, but that's all we know right now," Lawrence said. When asked what kind of drugs were found, he added, "Not sure. We have to do some tests on some pills and possibly crack cocaine."
Deputies arrested Netherton in connection to the shooting. They arrested Williams for the drugs and Bogany on five outstanding Class C misdemeanor warrants from the Lufkin Police Department.
Once ACSO deputies had all three suspects in custody, they talked to a witness that was at Hammer Equipment. The witness told authorities that he saw gunfire from both vehicles. Soon after, deputies found another gun near the edge of the property.
The three suspects are currently being booked into the Angelina County Jail. In addition to the five misdemeanor warrants, Bogany was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony. Williams was charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence, both felonies. Netherton was charged with felony possession of a firearm.
According to authorities, a female was in the truck with Netherton. She apparently fled the scene as soon as the shooting started. She is currently being questioned by deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.
