LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police have charged a man accused of stealing nearly $12,000 from his employer over a two-month period in late 2010.

Johnny Lee Trapp, 26, of Lufkin, is charged with state-jail felony theft.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, police began investigating the case in December 2010 after the owner of Taco Casa reported that one of his shift managers had been taking money from the business.

The owner said another manager noticed the numbers were not adding up right and that he checked through the books and found that Trapp had been making false returns and taking the money. The owners said that a total of $11,948.25 had been taken from the business between Oct. 1, 2010, to Dec. 9, 2010.

According to the affidavit, video surveillance showed Trapp using the refund key for the register and then throwing away the receipt. At least one video shows Trapp removing money from a cash box and placing it in his pocket.

The investigating officer obtained a warrant for Trapp's arrest on May 25, 2011. According to police spokesman J.B. Smith, a game warden saw Trapp driving on Thursday and knew he had a warrant. He made a traffic stop and placed him under arrest.
