Ex-officer to plead guilty to taking money meant for family of fallen deputy

LEBANON, OH (FOX19) -

A former Morrow police officer is going to plead guilty to stealing money from a golf fundraiser for the family of a fallen sheriff's deputy.

Prosecutors say Ryan Hunt never gave the family of Sgt. Brian Dulle the money raised at a golf tournament he hosted in July of 2011. According to Hunt's self-produced revenue and expense statement, the event made over $9,600 in profit.

In March of 2012, Warren Co. Sheriff Larry Sims learned that none of the money had been transferred to Sgt. Dulle's widow, and launched an investigation.

Dulle, 36, was laying stop sticks to stop a fleeing car in May of 2011, when he was hit and killed instantly. It happened near the intersection of Utica Road and U.S. 42 in Turtlecreek Twp. The driver of the car, Marcus Isreal, was later convicted of murder.

On Monday, Dulle's father revealed to FOX19 that Hunt eventually turned over $12,000 to the family at a later time.

Hunt is facing charges of theft, attempt tampering with records and attempt tampering with evidence. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday and is expected to plead guilty.
