Delays and detours to start soon on 59 construction project

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) says that progress on the HWY 59 construction project is coming along although rainy weather has causes some delays.

TxDot spokeswoman, Kathi White says up until this point, construction has had little impact on drivers so far but that's about to change.

Construction of a bridge to the US-HWY 59 mainlanes will require a detour that will permanently close the crossover at FM 3521.

The detour will only allow traffic to make only right turns to enter or exit FM 3521 and TxDOT is urging drivers who use this route to think about alternatives.

White says work on a 5-acre detention pond and moving dirt to the build the new HWY 59 north and southbound lanes is also progressing.
