PHOENIX (CBS5) -

One person has died and two other victims are fighting for their lives after a man opened fire in a Phoenix office building Wednesday.

Phoenix police confirmed that Steve Singer died from his injuries in the shooting. Singer owned Fusion Contact Centers, LLC, a local call center business.

"(Singer was) very astute with business of course," said longtime friend Jeffrey Barnes. "(He had a) high level of business acumen. He was very caring. When you went into his office he was very much a family man. He had sports memorabilia and pictures of his kids and his wife."

Mark Hummels, a local attorney, was also injured. Investigators say he is in extremely critical condition in the hospital.

Osborn Maledon law firm representative Athia Hardt released the following statement.

"Our partner, Mark Hummels was representing a client in a mediation today when he was shot. We understand that other people also were injured. As the news has reported, Mark has been taken to John C. Lincoln hospital. We don't have any further info at this time. At the appropriate time, additional information will be released by the authorities.

"Our concern right now is for Mark and his family. We ask the news media to respect their privacy in this difficult time."

A third victim, a 32-year-old woman, was also wounded in the shooting and remains in the hospital.
