LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - January 30 is the first day the IRS will accept 2013 Tax Returns and Goodwill's Tax Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program has wasted no time in getting you ready for tax season. The Lufkin location started helping people file their tax returns Tuesday and Tracy Shannon, a financial stability manager for the nonprofit, says they had about thirty people show up.
Shannon says a lot of people don't know what to expect when they show up for the service.
"It can take about 30-to-45 minutes depending on how complicated they are so when you come be prepared to wait a little bit," Shannon said.
Goodwill be offering its free tax services from 12 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The services will last until April 15.
Shannon says people wanting to get their taxes done should bring their ID, Social Security cards, and income information including W-2 or a 1099 form. If you draw interest on a bank account make sure to bring a bank statement and if you itemize your deduction you need to bring documentation of medical expenses, and mortgage insurance.
