KTRE's Joan Hallmark to promote new book in Lufkin Saturday

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Joan Hallmark, an Emmy Award winning journalist with KTRE Channel 9 Lufkin-Nacogdoches, will autograph copies of her new book Sound Bites at the Christian Words and Works bookstore on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store is located at 554 S. Chestnut.  

For the past 30 years she has produced  her Proud of East Texas and Freedom Fighters stories. She began her career with KTVT Channel 11 in Dallas where she was the host of the award-winning  Joan Hallmark Show.

Sound Bites is a behind-the-scenes look into the lives of movie stars, presidents, great athletes and war heroes.

Her features have aired on ABC's  Good Morning America, ABC News One and dozens of stations across the land.

She was a pioneer in the role of women in television and has interviewed hundreds of headliners including both Presidents Bush, Nancy Reagan, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, George Foreman, Charlton Heston, Carol Burnett, Sonny and Cher, Sammy Davis Jr., Matthew McConnaghey, Julia Child, and dozens of others.

In Sound Bites, she gives firsthand information and interesting commentary on all the various  men and women she has interviewed.       

She and her husband Roland live near Tyler, Texas. They have two sons, Rusten and Ron.

    During a Monday night special meeting, Nacogdoches Independent School District named Sandra Dowdy the lone finalist for the superintendent position. Dowdy has served as interim for the last several months. Per a press release from NISD, Dowdy was selected from a field of 45 applicants. A state mandated 21-day period must pass between the board naming her as the lone finalist and formally naming her as the next superintendent of Nacogdoches schools.
