ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina County deputies arrested a former police chief Friday following an investigation into a domestic dispute between he and his estranged wife.

Jeffery Charles Clopp, 46, of Pollok, is charged with assault/family violence, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the report, Clopp was at his home on Old Wells Highway around 4:45 p.m. when his wife came by to pick up some items. An argument followed, and the wife claims Clopp pushed and shoved her and grabbed her by the neck.

The wife's injuries were consistent with her statement, according to Capt. Alton Lenderman.

Deputies obtained a warrant for Clopp's arrest and he was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Friday, where he posted a $1,500 bail.

The City of Wells hired Clopp in May 2010 as chief of police. He was fired in January 2011. He previously served as chief of police in Kirbyville.
