WOLCOTT, CT (WFSB) -

In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, the Wolcott Police Department held a school shooting simulation and Channel 3 Eyewitness News was the only camera crew allowed inside.

The simulation was held at the Tyrrell Middle School and a police officer from the regional SWAT team pretended to be a gunman and ran through the hallways.

The simulation continued until the first responding officers were able to get the shooter.

"Make sure e know how to handle every situation," said Wolcott Police Chief Ed Stephens said. "The corners, the intersections, the classrooms, the library. We want to make sure we can take care of every hallway, nook and cranny."

Half of the Wolcott Police Department took part in the training and the other half will complete it another night.
