LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A two-car accident near the S. First Street entrance to Lufkin's Crown Colony subdivision around 9:45 Tuesday morning resulted in one man being taken to a local hospital for treatment after he complained of leg pains.
According to Officer John Davis of the Lufkin Police Department, a man driving a dark-colored Dodge Ram pickup pulled out of Crown Colony and turned left onto the northbound side of S. First Street/US Highway 59. The LPD officer said the driver of the Dodge attempted to accelerate to avoid an oncoming 18-wheeler, lost control of his vehicle, and slammed into a white Toyota pickup.
Witnesses said the Toyota rolled over two or three times and came to rest in the median across from Angelina College.
Although one lane was blocked on both the southbound and northbound sides of S. First Street, traffic was moving steadily as Lufkin Police officers and wrecker crews worked to clear the two vehicles from the scene.
The driver of the Dodge pickup was ticketed for failure to control speed.
