TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

Tempe police are searching for a second suspect in a road rage shooting Thursday afternoon that put five schools on lockdown.

A search is under way near Guadalupe and Lakeshore for one of the shooting suspects who fled after officers stopped one of the two vehicles from which the shots were fired. The other suspect was detained by police.  

The incident began when occupants in one vehicle opened fire on another vehicle on Loop 101 at U.S. 60 about 1:20 p.m., according to Tempe police spokeswoman Molly Enright. 

One person was injured and is expected to be OK, officers said.

About 4:30 p.m., police released the status of the precautionary school lockdowns: 

  • ABC Preschool - LIFTED
  • Marcos de Niza High School - LIFTED
  • Gethsemane Lutheran School - LIFTED
  • Rover School (briefly in lockdown) - LIFTED
  • Fees School (briefly in lockdown) - LIFTED

Police detectives said they do not believe the suspects knew each other.
