LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
Lufkin City Manager Paul Parker is doing well after receiving a single lung transplant Sunday.
City councilman, Robert Shankle says Parker went in for surgery at Methodist Hospital in Houston around 8 AM Sunday morning and was out by noon.
Shankle says that Parker was only recently approved to be on the transplant list about a month ago.
Parker got a call from Methodist Hospital Friday evening asking him to come to Houston to fill out the paper work for a lung transplant, according to Shankle. He says Parker thought he would get a lung Friday night but was sent home. Around 3 AM Sunday morning, Parker was called back to the hospital in Houston after being notified that a lung was available.
Shankle says Deputy City Manager, Keith Wright will assume Parker's responsibilities in Lufkin in the meantime.
Parker will have to live in Houston for a few months so that his health can be monitored by doctors. Shankle says he has been suffering from cystic fibrosis.
