Mardi Gras hits Highland Pines!

Posted: Updated:

These days when it's Mardi Gras, it's Mardi Gras everywhere, and Highland Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Longview was not going to be left out of the party.

We bring you the Krewe of Highland.

One last ball before lent: Fat Tuesday. Nearly one hundred residents, family and friends wouldn't miss this one, including Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano, who has been attending for years.

It's pretty obvious why: these people know how to get down.

Highland Pines Administrator Annette Simpkins said, "They're all dressed up and have their feathers and beads and are dancing up a storm."

William McCreary, Resident Council President said," It's gotten better every year and I think this is the biggest so far."

The All American Jam Band was living up to their name, and some residents like Letha got infected with the crazy legs. The music just moved her.

"My Momma knows how to dance, and I was born that way," Letha said.

Baby, she was born that way.

"You're the best dancer out here," I told Letha.

"Oh, stop it," she said, hitting me in the arm.

This is one party many residents look forward to all year, but some like Charlene still try to stay at least a little in control.

"Now, I don't get down to the floor too much," Charlene Thomas admitted.

That's probably a good thing. No one wants to end up dehydrated. But Letha just let the music move her all afternoon.

The Highland Pines Annual Mardi-Gras celebration has been going on for seventeen years, and we were  invited back next year...we wouldn't miss it.
