LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested an 18-year-old Zavalla man Tuesday evening after they responded to a disturbance at Lowe's and learned that the man had allegedly broken out the back window of a car and threatened another man with a tire iron.
Ashton Powell is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge. Although no bond has been set for the assault charge, a $1,500 bond has been set for the criminal mischief charge.
According to the police report, Lufkin Police officers responded to a 911 call about a disturbance in progress at the Lowe's store located at 3500 S. Powell followed the victim's Dodge Avenger until the man pulled into the Lowe's parking lot, and then he allegedly broke out the car's back window with a tire iron.
Corporal Nick Malone, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, said the aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge stemmed from the fact that Powell was allegedly carrying the tire iron when he threatened the victim and chased him for "an unknown distance."
The police report said that Powell admitted to breaking out the Dodge Avenger's back glass with the tire iron.
