Freedom Fighters: Roy Lee Robertson

The Vietnam War saw the highest proportion of African Americans ever to serve in an American war. Roy Lee Robertson was one of those young African American men called to serve his country in January of 1967. During his service in Vietnam, Robertson was wounded three times. He was awarded three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for his bravery in battle.
But he also received a lifetime of bad dreams and other symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for which he still receives treatment. In spite of this, Robertson says he's thankful to have survived the war when so many did not.
