Two juvenile girls injured following ATV accident

On Sunday, February 17, 2013 at approximately 4:55 p.m., Smith County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to East Texas Medical Center Emergency Room regarding an ATV accident which occurred earlier on private property at 11749 Highway 64 East near Chapel Hill.  The accident involved two juvenile females, one of which sustained severe head trauma and is in critical condition.  That individual is undergoing surgery at ETMC at this time.  The two girls were attending a birthday party and were riding an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV).  Witnesses stated they were  traveling at an unsafe speed when they lost control of the ATV, ejecting both individuals.  The occupant of the ATV with the more severe injuries was pinned underneath the ATV.  The second occupant sustained moderate scrapes and bruises.  There is no further information available at this time.  Additional information will be forwarded as it is received.
