Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Two Lufkin residents have requested a permit which will allow them to build a training center for youth baseball and football on West Denman Avenue.

According to city council documents, the 5,000-foot complex would go at 113 West Denman Ave., which is adjacent to Commercial Bank of East Texas. The complex will be open to the general public and the owners plan to offer free clinics on Saturdays.

The complex will include four batting cages and pitching lanes.

Hunt and Coronado have requested a special use permit for indoor commercial recreation and entertainment in a central business district.

The Lufkin Planning and Zoning Commission has already approved the request. The city council will consider approving the first reading of the measure in its city council meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m.
