LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
One of the four Angelina County men accused of gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in March 2011 agreed to an 8-year prison sentence for a felony charge of sexual assault Tuesday morning. All the other related charges against Clinton Earl Johnson Jr. were dropped.
Clinton Johnson Jr., 19, of Hudson, appeared in a plea bargain hearing in an Angelina County judicial district hearing Tuesday morning.
In March and April of 2011, Clinton Earl Johnson Jr., Clinton Johnson Sr., 55, of Lufkin, Adrian Eugene Moreland, 19, of Lufkin, and Timothy Joseph Headley, 23, of Lufkin, were arrested by the Hudson Police Department after a then-16-year-old girl alleged that the four men took turns sexually assaulting her while they held her down on a mattress in the backyard of Clinton Earl Johnson Senior's home.
All four men have since bonded out of the Angelina County Jail. According to the Angelina County's Web site, the jury selection for Clinton Earl Johnson Sr. is scheduled for August but could be as early as March, according to Lane Thompson, an assistant district attorney. He was charged with one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child.
Moreland and Headley's jury selections were originally scheduled for Tuesday morning, but Thompson said they haved waived their right to a jury trial. He said they will each face a bench trial unless one or the other decides to take a plea bargain. Moreland was charged with sexual assault, and Headley was charged with sexual assault of a child.
