2-alarm fire in Tucson guts auto repair shop

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a two-alarm fire that gutted an auto repair shop as 15 units and over 40 firefighters responded.

The Tucson Fire Department says the first firefighters on the scene on West Grant Road late Wednesday evening checked whether anybody was in the building.

But the on-scene commander then ordered firefighters to fight the fire from the building's exterior because the fire had broached the roof and appeared to be above firefighters.

Firefighters then began using ladder trucks to pour water onto the fire from above to put it out.

No firefighters were injured. There's no estimate yet on the cost of damage.
