Man knocked out after car hydroplanes off Lufkin road

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A man was knocked unconscious after hydroplaning off the feeder road between Chestnut Street and Tulane Drive in Lufkin Thursday morning.

Officer Jim Porter said the man was driving a Mazda two-door when he hydroplaned and drove into the grassy area between the road and the highway.

The man woke up while on the way to the hospital, Porter said.

The man's name was not available as of 11 a.m. Thursday.

Another accident occurred on the northbound side of Loop 287 between Ford Chapel Road and US Highway 69 South. The driver of a white Toyota Prius hybrid lost control, and her car slammed into a concrete barrier.

According to Randy Stallard, the Lufkin Police Department officer who worked the wreck, the driver of the Prius, Samantha Mouton, was cited for failure to control speed.

Neither Mouton nor the child in the car with her were injured in the accident.

One lane of the northbound side of Loop 287 will be blocked until the wreck is cleared.
