The Westover basketball team it seems have saved their best play for the most important time of the season.
The region champions are preparing to host Westside Macon in the second round of the Georgia High School Association state basketball playoffs.
The Patriots entering the state tournament on a roll after winning their first region title in three years ago.
The last time the Patriots won the region title, they made it to the final four.
Head coach Dallis Smith knows it is way too early to start the final four talk but he does admit it seems his team has moved to a higher level at the right time of the season.
"We have been working hard. I think they are coming together at the right time. People are looking for each other. Playing together as a team. That is what you want as a team. I think if we come back tomorrow and the next day and work. get ready for the next game. I think we have a good chance of trying to do something this year. It all depends on the kids and the attitude they come in with. Lately they have been coming in and working hard," said Dallis Smith.
Westover will host Westside Macon at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Monroe boys will play Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Rutland in Macon.
