PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Scottsdale man was behind bars Tuesday morning, accused of threatening to kill Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Deputies arrested Ignacio Carbajal, 42, Monday night after he recently posted comments on his Facebook page that he planned to kill Arpaio.

He admitted to deputies he made the threats because of Arpaio's tough stance against illegal immigration.

Carbajal is a U.S. citizen, but his family lives in Mexico.

Carbajal posted the threat from Mexico using an unsecured Wi-Fi account of his neighbor's to post to a website called People Against Sheriff Arpaio, according to an MCSO news release.

People Against Sheriff Arpaio was described as an activist group that has joined in protest marches with other critics of Arpaio's immigration policies, but which is now focusing its efforts to recall Arpaio, said Chris Hegstrom of the MCSO.

Deputies seized Carbajal's computer as evidence, according to the news release, and he was booked in the Fourth Avenue Jail on suspicion of threatening and intimidating.
