PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A 10-year-old boy is in serious condition after being hurt in a car accident Saturday morning.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. James Holmes said investigators believe a car traveling south on 39th Avenue around 10:15 a.m. ran the red light at Peoria Drive and was hit broadside by another car in the intersection.

Phoenix Fire spokesman Captain Larry Nunez said their paramedics transported two adult women and three kids ages 10 and under to local hospitals.

Nunez said a 10-year-old boy was the most seriously injured in the wreck and is in serious  condition.

The accident investigation caused the intersection to be closed until early Saturday afternoon.
