SAN LUIS, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mexican man was arrested Friday at the San Luis II Commercial Port for reportedly attempting to smuggle 669 pounds of marijuana into the U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred the 48-year-old driver for an additional inspection of the semitrailer he was driving.

A commercial X-ray system detected something irregular, and a CBP narcotics detection K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs in the back of the trailer.

Officers discovered 27 packages of marijuana hidden behind the back wall of the trailer.

The drugs and tractor-trailer were processed for seizure. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
