March Madness at the junior college level is no less mad than its NCAA counterpart, and the festivities begin Tuesday at the University of Tyler in Texas.
The Angelina College Roadrunners, entering the tournament as the conference's 9th seed, will take on Trinity Valley College at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The Roadrunners shocked the Cardinals in the teams' only meeting of the season on Dec. 5th, when AC rallied late for a 62-60 win in Athens.
Jaylen Daniel (14.8 ppg) and LaDerrien Jackson (11.1 ppg) lead the Roadrunners in scoring this season; having each finish in double figures will be the key to getting the team out of the first round.
Game time is 1 p.m. at UT-Tyler.
Saturday's loss at Kilgore left a coin flip deciding the final tournament seeding. The Lady ‘Runners lost the flip and will enter the tournament as the fourth seed, facing Panola College Wednesday at 3 p.m. AC swept the season series against the Fillies, winning 83-59 in Carthage on Jan. 23rd and eking out a 57-54 win in Lufkin on Feb. 23rd.
However, Lady ‘Runner head coach Byron Coleman isn't going to fall into the trap of looking past a team his team beat twice in the regular season. It was only two years ago that Panola knocked the Lady Roadrunners out in the first round despite having lost both games to AC earlier in the season.
Diamond Webb leads the Lady ‘Runners in scoring with a 14.2 ppg average; Demetria Foreman scores at an 11.8 ppg clip; and Lexi Harris averaged nearly a double-double in scoring and rebounding, finishing with 10.7 points and nine boards per game. Harris is also among league leaders in blocks, averaging 1.3 swats per game.
The Lady Roadrunners tip off against Panola Wednesday at 3 p.m.
