PHOENIX (CBS5) -

An elderly man reportedly pulled a handgun on a Phoenix firefighter who was trying to help a woman with a medical issue Friday morning.

Larry Nunez of the Phoenix Fire Department said the firefighter went to a home in the area of 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road about 5:30 a.m. and once inside started to help the elderly woman.

Once inside the firefighter was approached by the man, who thrust a pistol into the firefighter's chest telling they didn't need help and to get out of their house, Nunez said.

He said the firefighter left the house and police were called. The man was taken into custody and the woman taken to a local hospital, Nunez said.

Nunez said he didn't know if the handgun was loaded.
