VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta State Blazers finished up spring practice Saturday, and are now officially looking to repeat as Division II National Champs.

The team held their annual spring game Saturday at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in Valdosta.

The White Team defeated the Black Team, 24-14.

Head Coach David Dean says he wanted to see how some players stepping into new roles would perform.

"We had some positions where we really needed to watch some guys and see how they were going to play when the lights came on so to speak," he says. "I was very pleased with them."

Dean says he was looking for effort from his team all spring, and felt he got it.

"From the first day to the last day, we had outstanding effort," he says. "Any time your team can come up and give you outstanding effort each and every day, then I think you have a special group."

The Blazers open their 2013 campaign at Fort Valley State September 7.
