GOODLETT, Texas (AP) -

A Dallas-area woman and SFA student has died after a North Texas traffic accident in which two vehicles hit the same cow on a highway.

The Department of Public Safety says the wreck happened before dawn Wednesday on U.S. 287 near Goodlett, just east of the Childress County and Hardeman County line.

DPS says 21-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Hopkins of Crandall was riding in an SUV that struck the cow. Trooper Daniel Hawthorne says Hopkins got out of the vehicle and was standing along the roadway when a second vehicle also hit the cow.

DPS says the second driver lost control and that vehicle struck the woman. Hopkins died at a hospital in Quanah.

According to her Facebook page, she was a student at SFA.
