LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
An unruly DWI suspect faces additional charges after he kicked a Lufkin police officer while having his blood drawn at a hospital Sunday night.
DPS spokesman Trooper David Hendry said a trooper pulled over Jacob R. Beaver, 31, of Lufkin, for a moving violation on State Highway 94, at the intersection of FM 706 around 11:55 p.m. While stopped, the trooper smelled an odor of alcohol on Beaver and issued a field sobriety test. Beaver failed the test, so the trooper arrested Beaver on a third-degree charge of DWI third or more, Hendry said.
The trooper took Beaver to Memorial Hospital for a mandatory blood test. Before a sample was obtained, Beaver became combative and kicked a Lufkin police officer, who was helping the trooper.
Beaver now faces an additional charge of third-degree assault of a public servant.
