POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested a 32-year-old Segno man after he allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend, hit her with a hammer, and drove over her foot with his pickup as he fled the scene Tuesday afternoon.

Michael David Owens is still being held in the Polk County jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bail has been set at $25,000.

According to Rickie Childers, a spokesman for the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred in the county's Big Sandy area at approximately 2:25 p.m. Tuesday. The PCSO's investigation revealed that Owens allegedly threw a hammer at his girlfriend, striking her in the back of the head. Then, when he fled the scene in his pickup truck, he reportedly drove over his girlfriend's foot.

The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital and later released, Childers said.

A Polk County Sheriff's Office detective obtained an arrest warrant for Owens, and a deputy located the man shortly before midnight Wednesday. Owens was arrested without incident and transported to the Polk County Jail.
