Cold front moving into East Texas bringing cooler temperatures, isolated strong storms

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

A cold front is slowly drifting south across East Texas this afternoon. Temperatures south of the front will warm well into the 70s to near 80 degrees across Deep East Texas. North of the front temperatures will remain steady and even drop through the 50s.

In addition to a wide range of temperatures, isolated thunderstorms may develop as the front moves into Deep East Texas. Any thunderstorm that develops could produce large hail, gusty winds and even an isolated tornado.

The good news is the chance of thunderstorm development is not very high, making the threat of severe weather low. The best chance of seeing a severe thunderstorm today is along and south of a line from Center to Nacogdoches to Crockett.

A second front will move through the area tomorrow bringing another chance of showers and thunderstorms. Right now there is a slight risk of a severe storm or two again tomorrow across Deep East Texas. The greatest chance of severe weather tomorrow appears to be off to our east in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Behind the second front, much colder air will move into the area. Temperatures on Sunday will struggle to get out of the 50s. By Monday and Tuesday mornings parts of East Texas could see a light freeze. Record lows for both days are in the middle 20s, so no records look to be set but it will be well below normal through Thursday of next week.
