Marcelo Claure, Chairman and CEO of Miami-based Brightstar Corp., will be honored by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFHCC) with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the organization’s Hispanic Leadership Awards.
The award recognizes Claure’s business and community leadership as a Hispanic entrepreneur. Claure launched a wireless phone sales business in 1997 that has become the world’s largest specialized wireless distributor and a leading provider of services to the wireless industry.
Today, Brightstar Corp. distributes mobile devices and accessories in more than 110 countries and provides services to 200 mobile operators, and 30,000 retailers, e-tailers and dealers worldwide. The company has also expanded beyond distribution, and is a growing world leader in value-added services for wireless device manufacturers, operators and retailers.
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the SFHCC, as it represents the best and brightest Hispanic leaders in the community,” said Claure. “This award is less about an individual and more about the tremendous effort so many talented and energetic people have put forth over the years to make Brightstar a global wireless leader.”
Claure’s father, Rene Claure, will accept the award at a banquet today, starting at 11:45 am at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa located at 4400 NW 87th Avenue Miami, FL 33178.
The Hispanic Leadership Awards is a signature event of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber and recognizes individuals that provide excellence in different fields within the Hispanic market of South Florida. These individuals, companies and organizations have worked and volunteered within their community to help improve and make our city a better place to live, work and play.
