EAST TEXAS (KTRE) -

Could this be Old Man Winter's last stand?  A late season cold front has brought in some unseasonably cold air down from Canada and will lead to a widespread freeze tonight across East Texas.

Due to the fact that we are looking at freezing temperatures this late in the season, a freeze warning has been issued for all of Deep East Texas.

Many areas were near freezing this morning, but with lighter winds in place tonight, look for temperatures to be some three to five degrees colder than what we saw this morning.  Areas of patchy frost will also be possible over the next couple of mornings, which could damage crops that are not protected.

With temperatures expected to fall into the upper 20's and lower 30's, this will by no means be a hard freeze.  However, due to the fact that we have a freeze taking place in late March, you will want to make sure and cover your spring plants and vegetation.  It might be wise to keep your tender plants covered again on Tuesday night as we will see another cold morning again on Wednesday.

After Wednesday morning's cold start, a south wind will ensue, allowing for a rapid warm-up for the latter half of the week.
