Woodville native Kree Harrison still in the running to becoming the next 'American Idol'

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Woodville native Kree Harrison is still in the running to becoming the next "American Idol" and will join the cast of the Top Seven finalists next week.

Tonight's episode proved this is the season of girl power. The contestant's opened the show with a rendition of Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock 'n' Roll." The girls dominated in their performance, while the boys floundered.

Harrison received a special surprise from Aretha Franklin who praised Harrison's performance Wednesday night to her song "Don't Play that Song." Franklin told Harrison "you're not going anywhere," which almost brought Harrison to tears. In the end, it was 18-year-old Devin Velez who went home.

During Wednesday's episode, Harrison did a duet with fellow contestant Janelle Arthur to Madonna's "Like a Prayer." Judge Nicki Minaj bashed Arthur's performance saying, "kreedom almost made it look like she flew in to do a duet with an 'Idol' contestant this week."

The judges across the board expressed their love for Harrison's ability to combine blues and soul in her renditions, which Urban has said is the roots of country music.
