LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Livingston Police Department arrested a 34-year-old woman on Easter Sunday after she allegedly beat her son and daughter with a spatula hard enough to leave marks.
Shannon Leigh Burch, of Livingston, is still being held in the Polk County Jail on a third-degree felony charge of injury to a child, elderly, or disabled. Her bail was set at $15,000.
According to Lt. Matt Parrish of the Livingston Police Department, officers responded to an injury of a child call at 4:44 p.m. Sunday. Parrish said that the two victims told police that their mother had started drinking earlier in the day and got upset at them. The report didn't specify what Burch got so angry about.
At that point, Burch allegedly started hitting her 14-year-old son in the head, arms, and legs with a kitchen spatula. Parrish said she also hit her 10-year-old daughter in the head with the spatula, and that the report stated the marks on the two children were consistent with being beaten with an object like a spatula.
Child Protective Services was contacted. The two children were released into the custody of another relative, Parrish said.
