TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A Canton Police Department narcotics officer was in a Tyler courtroom on Monday afternoon after he was arrested on drug charges.

James Melvin Bradshaw appeared in Judge Judith Guthrie's federal courtroom for an arraignment and detention hearing on six counts of acquiring a controlled substance by misrepresentation. During the hearing, an FBI agent testified that during an investigation, he found Bradshaw acquired between 1,200-1,400 pills and bottles of hydrocodone.

According to testimony, in one of the incidents, a person told the agent that Bradshaw came to his home, identified himself as a Canton police officer and told the person they were on a list at the Canton Police Department and confiscated pills.

Bradshaw was arrested last week by FBI agents and a member of the Office of the Attorney General. While being transported, the FBI agent said Bradshaw discussed having a problem with hydrocodone.

F.R. Files, Jr. and Brett Harrison will represent Bradshaw during the trial, which was scheduled for May 7th at 9 a.m. A plea agreement deadline has been set for April 29 at 3 p.m. He was released on $5,000 bond.
