Police looking for driver who stole vehicle from Lufkin day care with child inside

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Police are looking for a vehicle heading westbound on State Highway 94 with a driver who reportedly stole it at a Lufkin day care with a child inside Tuesday evening. The driver dropped the child off at a trailer park in Hudson before heading west on State Highway 94.

Hudson Police Chief Jimmy Casper said Lufkin police are leading the investigation. However, nobody with Lufkin police has been able to provide comment on the case.

Casper said the vehicle was stolen from Kid Kountry Day Care, located at 2505 W. Frank Ave., with a child inside.

The driver drove to Bowers Mobile Home Park in Hudson and told the girl to get out of the vehicle, and she did. The child is not hurt.

The driver continued westbound on Highway 94.

Casper did not have a description of the man or the vehicle, but he did say Hudson police are assisting in the search.

A Lufkin police dispatcher deferred comment to police spokesman Det. JB Smith, who stated in an email that he would only give information if someone in the case involved gave it to him. Otherwise, he would report it Wednesday morning.

"If we weren't grossly understaffed and under budgeted, we could afford to spare a supervisor to respond to your questions or to cover the cost of me coming out to find out what's going on," Smith stated in an email.
