NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - This was no ordinary piano concert and this Nacogdoches elementary school student is no ordinary piano player, Nio Ajero is just 8-years-old and he is a proficient pianist.
Nio Ajero took center-stage Tuesday evening as he showed off his extraordinary talent on the piano at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Nio's dad, Mario Ajero, an associate professor of piano at SFA says this is Nio's third solo piano recital.
"It's not common for kids his age to have a whole recital devoted to you know just him," said Mario
But this performance was unlike a typical piano recital because Nio is playing on a Yamaha AvantGrand N2 Hybrid piano where he can summon an entire orchestra at the touch of a button.
"It has violin's, viola's cello's and bass'," said Nio. "The orchestra follows me if I go faster, the orchestra goes faster. If I go slower the orchestra goes slower."
Nio performs classical piano music like Johann Sebastian Bach but also has a little fun with new age music as well.
Nio said, "My favorite popular music is "Some Nights" by fun."
Nio also jumped on the Angry Birds bandwagon learning how to play the theme music.
Mario says he is proud of what Nio has accomplished but he doesn't call his son a prodigy…
"A lot of people come up to me and say he's amazing and he's a prodigy. I don't really see it that way everything that he's achieved up to this point has been through hard work and he actually loves to play the instrument," said Mario.
Nio has been playing piano since he was 3 and practices 10 and a half hours a week, loving every minute of it.
