A big event is taking place at the Rose Garden Center in Tyler this weekend during The Garden Club of America's Zone IX annual conference, called "Zoo Zone 2013," and hosted by The Gertrude Windsor Garden Club in Tyler.  The highlight is the presence of longtime National Geographic photographer and writer, Joel Sartore.

Sartore has spent many years traveling the world, photographing endangered species of animals and venturing out into natural areas to capture clear, mind-blowing images of flowers, trees and other plant life.

"The Gertrude Windsor Garden Club is so pleased to have the opportunity to showcase our beautiful city as we host the Zone IX meeting," noted Betsy Ellis, Gertrude Windsor Garden Club president. "Part of our focus will be Caldwell Zoo, which is cherished by the people of Tyler and East Texas for its conservation of animals and natural habitats. The spectacular 85 acres will make a memorable venue for Zoo Zone 2013."

On Friday, April 5, from 1:00 p.m. until 5 p.m., the public is invited to attend the conference's flower show in the Tyler Rose Garden Center. Satore will speak during the luncheon from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Delegates from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas will compete in several categories, as they show off their gardening skills and compete for honors in various categories.

The conference will conclude with an awards luncheon on Saturday at Willow Brook Country Club.
