FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -

Crews have rescued a tourist who got stranded on a narrow ledge about 700 feet from the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon near Flagstaff.

"She was a ways off the trail," said Arizona DPS Officer Eric Tarr. Tarr was part of the aerial search and rescue team involved in Heon's rescue. "I'm not exactly sure how she got where she was."

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said their technical rescue team has raised 50-year-old Elise Heon, of Canada, up to the rim of the canyon using a rope. She was taken by helicopter to the Slide Rock area and then sent to Sedona Medical Center as a precaution.

"She was smiling when I saw her and she was happy to be down off the cliff," said Tarr.

Heon was seen leaving a Sedona area hospital Friday evening. She told a CBS 5 news photographer the care she received "couldn't have been better."

On Thursday about 10:30 p.m., deputies were called to the Junipine Resort for a report of a missing woman.

A resort employee told authorities that Heon was supposed to check out at 11 a.m. Thursday but had not been seen. Deputies found her wallet, identification, cell phone, clothing, glasses and iPad still in the room.

A worker recalled Heon asking about nearby hiking areas. Search and rescue crews searched the area throughout the night and morning.

Dispatch received a report from a woman in distress in the area of Don Hoel's cabins about 8 a.m.

Heon was located Friday morning and Coconino County Sheriff's Office, Flagstaff Fire Department, Sedona Fire Department and DPS rangers worked most of Friday to rescue her. She landed safely on the ground about 5 p.m.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
