Nacogdoches firefighter injured in fall still in critical condition

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The Nacogdoches fire fighter who was injured in a fall Thursday afternoon is still in critical condition at the Hermann Hospital in Houston with serious head injuries.

"He remains in critical condition in the Neurological ICU at Hermann," Terri Martin, a City of Nacogdoches employee, said in an e-mail. "The family asks for continued prayers."

Fire Equipment Operator Carl "Bubba" Owens fell from a fire truck while performing routine equipment maintenance at one of the Nacogdoches fire stations Thursday morning. Owens was transported to the Nacogdoches Medical Center Emergency Room at 7:30 a.m. he was airlifted to Memorial Hermann in Houston around noon.

Owens has been employed with the City of Nacogdoches Fire & Rescue for 40 years and has been at Station 4 on NE Stallings Drive for several years.
