TxDOT urges East Texas drivers to be alert for Trash-off volunteers

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - If you are out on the roadways tomorrow, it's likely you will see a lot of people working to clean up Texas highways.

More than 80,000 volunteers from around the state will be participating in the Texas Department of Transportation's road trash pickup. Thirty area adopt-a-highway groups will be participating in this year's campaign.

And with so many volunteers on the side of the road, TxDOT urges drivers to use caution when traveling

"Safety, which is always our number one priority, and with volunteers out there picking up trash we encourage drivers to be alert," Kathi White, a spokeswoman for TxDOT, said.

The Texas Trash-off is all part of the annual Don't Mess with Texas campaign.

Angelina Beautiful Clean along with Keep Nac Beautiful and Brookshire Brothers will be providing meals to volunteers.
